About Harbonäs, and some about our coat of arms in the Harbo parish church...
The main building The manor was probably built in 1637 by Nicodemus Tessin on behalf of the baroness Görel Posse. The original building had no second floor and was constructed of redpainted timber. The present building is also in one floor, with a big ceiling with slopeing gables. Some remaining parts in the ceilings construction indicates it was made during the 18th century. Close to a rebuilding in mid 1740s, the windows was enlarged, and the facades was plastered and painted white. The manor was rebuilt once more during the 19th century, when the windows got theire present appearance, and the facades got theire white vertically mounted wooden panels. In 1914 the facades was plastered again. After years in decline an extensive restoration started in 1939, when the manor was provided with central heating, bath and a modern kitchen. The von Knorring era It all began with baron Jöran Johan (Georg) von Knorring, born at the 10th of november in 1657 in Tervalampi, Finland. He served as an officer at the regiments of Uppland, H. Ramsvärd, Erskin and Helsinge. He was also vice gouverneur in Kurland, and commander at the castle Mitau, in todays Latvia, which he defended with only 600 man against czar Peters 12 000 russian soldiers. On the 20th of maj in 1683 Jöran Johan married Catharina Cronström in Stockholm. From Jöran Johan and Catharina and further on, Harbonäs came to be in the familys possession for 5 generations.
The gifts to the Harbo parish church The grandson of Jöran Johan and Catharina, Carl Gustaf (1732-1809), married Ulrika Barbara Funck (1745-1809). She gave an silverembroidered cloth in black satin to the church for the covering of the wine goblet. The cloth showed the coat of arms of both the Funck and von Knorring families. And the cloth is still present in one of the wodden cabinets in the church.

All of the pictures was taken in august 2007. Much more information about Jöran Johan and his family is to be found in the book "Ätterna Knorring" by the former genealogist at the swedish House of Nobles, mr Pontus Möller et.al, from where much of the text above originates. To be recommended! |
